Onsite with Infinity – Episode 11
Featuring Peter Schmith | Senior Design Manager | Infinity Constructions Group Pty. Ltd.
In this episode we’re onsite in Surry Hills, Sydney, speaking with Peter Schmith, Senior Design Manager at Infinity Constructions, about a significant adaptive reuse project that involves the construction of Canva’s new HQ supporting their global growth efforts.
Peter discusses the challenges and rewards of transforming this 50+ year-old structure, which involves removing the centre of the structure, demolishing existing fire stairs, and reinforcing the structure with extensive temporary steel to support the new layout.
Peter also shares the vision to sustainably retain and reuse as much of the original building fabric as possible, including the original brickwork facades.
This project is a collaborative effort with Cox Architecture. Together, we’re tackling the complexities of repurposing an older building — from unexpected structural issues to integrating modern design within a heritage context.
At Infinity Constructions Group Pty. Ltd., complex adaptive reuse projects are part of what sets us apart. These highly technical builds align with our expertise and showcase the innovative, solution-focused approach that makes us unique in the construction marketplace.
