To set up a Google Analytics 4 property, follow these steps:
Sign in to your Google Analytics account or create a new account at https://analytics.google.com/.
Once you're logged in, click on the "Admin" tab at the bottom left corner of the screen.
In the "Account" column, click on the dropdown menu and select the account you want to add the GA4 property to. If you don't have an existing account, you can create a new one by clicking on the "+ Create Account" button.
In the "Property" column, click on the dropdown menu and select the website or app property you want to track with GA4. If you don't have an existing property, you can create a new one by clicking on the "+ Create Property" button.
After selecting the property, click on the "Data Streams" tab within the Property column.
Click on the "+ Add Stream" button.
Choose the platform type you want to set up, such as "Web" for a website or "Apps" for a mobile app.
Provide the necessary information for the data stream, such as the website or app URL, the stream name, and the time zone.
Configure the advanced settings for the data stream if needed, such as enabling enhanced measurement features or adjusting the data retention period.
Once you've filled in all the required information, click on the "Create Stream" button.
After creating the data stream, you'll see a page with a Measurement ID (also known as a "G-Tag") and instructions on how to implement it on your website or app. Take note of this Measurement ID as you'll need it later.
Implement the GA4 Measurement ID on your website or app by following the specific instructions provided for your platform. This typically involves adding the Measurement ID code snippet to your website's HTML or integrating the GA4 SDK into your mobile app.
Once the implementation is complete, return to the Google Analytics interface and click on the "Admin" tab.
Under the Property column, click on "Data Streams" again to verify that the data stream shows a green dot, indicating that data is being received.
Congratulations! You have successfully set up a Google Analytics 4 property. It may take some time for data to start appearing in your GA4 reports, but once it does, you'll be able to access a wealth of information about your website or app's performance and user behavior.
