A composition is the foundation of a video. Each composition has its own timeline. Typically, a composition contains several layers, which represent components such as video and audio, animated text and vector graphics, still images, and light sources.
You can add video to a composition by creating a layer for which that video will act as a source. You can arrange composition layers spatially and temporally, and composite them using transparency to control which parts of the underlying layers should be visible on the layers above.
A composition in After Effects is similar to a sequence in Premiere Pro.
