I've been playing around with Ableton Live 10 lately, the upgrade has been really fun to dig into along with Captain Chords and that gang of VSTs from Mixed in Key that also includes Captain Melody and Captain Deep for Bass. I know the purists are screaming, but one of my biggest road blocks through the years has been getting over the hill -- and I kept not making it. To finally have all of these advancements in place, allowing me to dive in and make good music, or feel like I am about to make great music, is really awesome and amazingly motivating. Does anyone really care how you make great music? The average person isn't going to call you out for using Captain Chords vs. knowing all the music theory rules behind the chords in your song... It reminds of DJing years ago, I learned on turntables, spinning vinyl, all that, but when the ability to DJ on Native Instruments Traktor came around (I don't want to date myself, but I was a beta tester in the beginning), I grabbed on because it meant that I could carry a ton of songs with me (I wasn't limited to how many records or CDs I could carry into the booth) and I could easily use search to pull up great songs, it kept my sets tight, it made me a DJ that people loved to see behind the booth... I think that computer DJing gave me an advantage, when other people were knocking it, saying it wasn't really Doing. I had done my time already, I learned don vinyl, I could beat mix on vinyl, I had nothing left to prove and felt that using a computer to DJ made me better in many ways...and look where we are today, so many DJs using all kinds of mediums, it doesn't matter as long as you have the skills to back you.

That was long-winded, but yeah, this video is a little bit about my journey in beat making thus far, checking out the new Ableton Live 10 and Mixed in Key Captain chords. I am having a blast, I am motivated to keep moving forward, life is good!
