The events take place 300 years after the end of the Great Wars, in which the Autobots defeated the Decepticons and a precarious peace reigned on Cybertron. Their direct descendants—the Maximals and Predacons—now vie for possession of the Golden Disc, an ancient artifact containing information on the location of powerful crystals called Energon. During a cosmic skirmish, the two warring factions enter a time vortex, traveling back in time and crash-landing on prehistoric Earth. The Transformers take the form of Earth's beasts, resuming the battle for annihilation.
