A massive white sea in southern Spain that isn’t snow. A tiny village in the middle of Belarus that shares its name with the French capital. An SOS sign into a remote Maldives island. A plane left crashed in the Siberian forest. Empty suburban roads that have been waiting for houses for decades.

Ever zoomed around on Google Earth and stopped at something that catches your eye? I have, many times. Here I dig deep into six odd places on Google Earth and get the real stories behind them.

From a greenhouse sea big enough to see from space, to a floating island that slowly spins and changes shape, to a failed land scheme that left ghostly road grids in the desert.
Let’s find out what’s going on with these strange spots.
