Pruning rosemary is incredibly simple with these 3 rules, and your plant will always be green, full of leaves and flowers, rounded, and in perfect health. The idea is to make few, well-placed cuts to minimize damage to the plant.
Rosemary is pruned in two periods:
in March, immediately after winter and before it begins to grow
in September, after flowering
To prune rosemary, follow these simple rules:
STEP 1: Remove all dead, tired, and diseased branches, making the classic return cuts.
STEP 2: Remove all intertwined and touching branches, leaving the tree in its most beautiful state.
STEP 3: Lower the crown, making it rounded, by shortening the branches by about 20-30 cm using traditional back cuts.
With the cut branches, we can always create new plants using cuttings.
