This is the story of *KOKO, THE GORILLA WHO SURPRISED THE WORLD.* 🦍
Koko was born in 1971 and began learning sign language when she was about a year old. Her trainer, Francine Patterson, worked with her for decades. ❤️
And here's the amazing part...
According to the Gorilla Foundation, Koko used more than 1,000 signs and understood numerous spoken English words.
But it wasn't just about asking for food or toys.
Stories also circulated about how she expressed emotions, such as sadness, and her affection for cats. 🥹🐱
One of the most well-known stories was that of her kitten, All Ball.
Koko had a special bond with him, and his death became one of the most emotional moments associated with her story. 💔
But now comes the question that divided the internet and scientists:
*DID KOKO REALLY USE SIGN LANGUAGE LIKE HUMANS?* 🤯
The answer isn't so simple.
Some researchers considered that her signs demonstrated significant communication abilities.
