In the Carlsen-Kaymer game (2023 World Cup), the Norwegian grandmaster had to fight back on demand, which in itself proved quite a challenge. After a mutual oversight in the middlegame, the players entered a multi-piece ending, in which Magnus Carlsen hoped to outplay his younger opponent. Vincent Keymer had held up well up until then, but things took a turn for the worse when he switched to opposite-colored rooks: by that point, the German grandmaster was in time trouble. Ultimately, Carlsen forced his opponent into a mistake, and the Norwegian capitalized on it to the fullest.
