Construction of the dacha began in 1988, on the personal initiative of Soviet Foreign Minister and Politburo member Eduard Shevardnadze and with the consent of General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Mikhail Gorbachev, on the site of the former state dacha No. 27, Myusser.
In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed, and a year later, war broke out in Abkhazia. Despite the dacha's completion by then, Mikhail Gorbachev never had the chance to vacation there.
