Make sure your ship is small or it wont work. By small, I mean you made few little changes. If you upgraded your ship and put too many module, it may be able to land on the platform.
Otherwise, to have a safe bet, build the bigger landing pad ( Landing pad with ship builder ) just to be sure. It's gonna cost more in resources, but you won't be worried about landing or not on it.
