When I think about the Xbox One, I find it interesting. I wouldn’t say it’s like other consoles, like the PS4 or the Series S, but it's that uniqueness that keeps me coming back to this console over the others. However, one might wonder if it still makes the console a worthwhile purchase in 2024.
And how the performance holds up after 11 years, the variety of games the Xbox One has to offer, the affordability of the console today if you're looking to own one, the longevity of it, and the experience of playing with the controller after just 11 years.
When it comes to performance, it becomes quite clear that the Xbox One holds up after all these years. With our first game being Fortnite, you can see that the Xbox One holds up a consistent frame rate of around 50 to 60fps, and in very rare cases, you will see the frame rate drop below that.
And for the average player like me, you can definitely notice the difference if you compare this to other consoles around the time , especially if you're one who plays via keyboard and mouse, with the PS4 being the prime example of this. While this is a good console, and has a lot of well-known titles, the hardware is not as powerful as the Xbox One, revealing the choppy frame rates of 20 to 40 fps at worst and highs of 50fps at best, seeing only the high frame rates if you're in an area with no players or an area with little to no movement.
Only made more apparent if you decide to learn keyboard and mouse on this console. And it brings it back to a thought I had and in a way still have. When you see the releases of the latest-gen consoles, you will notice most of the time, without fail, the Xbox will come out on top, being the most powerful console on the market. And while the consoles are out, you won’t really notice this difference despite the computational difference.
But slowly, you will notice that the Xbox One will steam ahead in the little things like frame rate or consistency with console tasks, and since it's not working as hard to run the game, the console can also run the game quieter, giving that much-needed silence to your ears,
something that PS4 owners can only dream of. And if I’m not mistaken, the PS4 never used to be that loud; it’s only as the hardware gets older will you notice that the console becomes louder to sustain its peak performance.
