Fill out form DS-11 in black ink or print legibly in blue ink using the U.S. Department of State's printable form, or use their form filler tool to complete the form online.
Gather the required documents, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate.
Get a passport photo taken that meets the requirements
Make an appointment for an acceptance facility
Submit your completed form and documents in person at an acceptance facility.
Pay the fee: Passport Book: $165 for adults (age 16 and older), $135 for minors (under age 16). You can also pay an additional fee of $60 for expedited processing
Wait for your passport to arrive!

Check your passport's expiration date and the requirements to renew by mail.
Fill out form DS-82 in black ink or print legibly in blue ink using the U.S. Department of State's printable form, if you're eligible to renew by mail.
