Structural Light Adobe Bricks
How to make low-density, load-bearing Light Adobe Bricks @ Solid Earth Ltd. Nelson, New Zealand.
These bricks are about half the weight of traditional adobe bricks, but are just as strong and can be used in load-bearing construction. The lower density means they have much better insulation values and thus are more suited for temperate climates.
They fulfill the stringent strength requirements laid out in the NZ Earth Building Standards and can be used in seismic zones. We have carried out full-scale earthquake tests on thes bricks, in collaboration with Auckland University.
