Is photography art? genuine question after reading this article (links Below) about the landscape photographer of the year award.
photography has always been a hot topic when you talk about it as art. Particularly with landscape. This year's winners were all heavily edited shots and this person took aim on the merits of how much editing is too much.
Now, I am not sure where I stand on landscape as in some ways you are shooting nature and you can say it's your job to picture this in as much a natural setting as possible. However, if you believe photography is art, then it's your the artist who depitures what you want your audience to see.
David Hockney once said in regards to painting landscapes "it's not the landscapes that have become boring it's the depiction of landscapes that have become boring".
So it leaves the question, would you rather landscape photography remain loyal to realism or make headways in to the wider artistic community?
I'll leave that to you to decide?
