Cleanup operation starts in Podgora after heavy downpour, Karlovac still flooded
A powerful storm hit the Makarska area yesterday. All emergency services battled the consequences of the heavy downpour, during which, in just over an hour yesterday afternoon, as much as 140 liters of rain per square meter fell. The torrent swept away everything in its path, causing landslides, blocked roads, and flooded basements, yards, and business premises. Due to the thunderstorm, 3,000 people were left without electricity. Incredible footage came from Podgora, where the torrent carried cars, and water entered a large number of houses.
Residents of some places in the Karlovac area are now facing the aftermath of yet another flood. The Kupa and Korana rivers, which exceeded 8 meters yesterday and flooded dozens of houses in recent days, are now receding, and the water is slowly withdrawing.
