Beginner Backpacking Part 2 - Footwear
Footwear is key to keep your feet happy. Most people think you have to have boots to hike but that's not necessarily true. If the weight of your backpack is low enough you should definitely look into something more comfortable like trail runners. If you absolutely need the ankle support then yes go with boots or a mid height shoe.
