A short and to the point explanation of the basic stuff you need to know about the IP Address.
The IP is a network address for your computer so the internet knows where to send you emails, data, pictures of huskies and whatever you use it for.
The IP address you're using at any given time is your device's digital address.
Think about it: your house has a street address to get your physical mail. Your connected device also needs an address in order to get and receive data on the Web. And that address is the IP.
IP's can be IPv4 or IPv6. The IPv6 came around when we basically ran out of IPv4 addresses - there are A LOT of devices connected to the internet.
Your IP can be static or dynamic. If it's dynamic, your ISP can change it when it wants, or it can change when you reboot your modem/router. If it's static, it usually stays the same during the whole period of your contract with your ISP.
