Where is Barcelona?
Barcelona is the capital and largest city of Catalonia, one of the autonomous communities of Spain. It is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, about 120 km south of the Pyrenees mountain range and the French border.
How do I get to Barcelona?
Barcelona is a perfectly well-connected city, so you can arrive by plane to El Prat Airport; If you arrive by bus or train, you'll normally arrive at Sants Station, although there are some exceptions, such as buses from Andorra that arrive at the Arc de Triomf station. The last option is to arrive by ferry. Regardless of the mode of transport, there's always a public transportation option to get to the city center. From the airport, there's the metro, train, and public bus service with connections to the most important points in the city.
Where should I stay in Barcelona?
Barcelona is a large city with attractions in various parts and good transport links, so there's more than one good place to stay, depending on your trip, budget, and accommodation options.
One of the best areas to stay is near Plaça Catalunya, the city's main hub. Another option is to stay near Plaça Espana, one of the areas with the best connections to other parts of the city and the outskirts. From here, you can take the train to the Monserrat Monastery or go to Sants Station, where most trains depart. The third option is to stay near the Sagrada Familia.
How long should you go?
While there are many cruises that offer visits to Barcelona for a few hours, this is a city that requires time. It's also important to consider that it's quite popular with travelers, so waiting in lines to enter its main attractions, such as the Sagrada Familia or the Picasso Museum, can take time. Add to this the fact that, unlike other destinations, this city has important attractions in several areas, so even using public transportation to get from one place to another will take time. With these factors in mind, three to five days may be enough to get to know the city well.
