FOR FRANK!!!!

Daniel Earl "Dan" Hartman (December 8, 1950—March 22, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter and record producer, best known for such songs as: "Free Ride", "I Can Dream About You", "Instant Replay", "Love Sensation", and "Relight My Fire", all of which had world-wide success.

3½ months past his 43rd birthday, Dan Hartman died at his Westport, Connecticut, home of an AIDS-related brain tumor.

"I Can Dream About You" is a song performed by Dan Hartman on the soundtrack album Streets of Fire from the movie of the same name. Originally released in 1984 as a single off Hartman's album I Can Dream About You, it reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Streets of Fire is a film directed by Walter Hill and co-written by Hill and Larry Gross. It was described in previews, trailers, and posters as "A Rock & Roll Fable." It is an unusual mix of musical, action, drama, and comedy with elements both of retro-1950s and 1980s. The film stars Michael Paré as a soldier of fortune who returns home to rescue his ex-girlfriend (Diane Lane) who has been kidnapped by Raven (Willem Dafoe).

Hartman wrote this for the 1984 movie Streets of Fire, where it was performed by the fictional group The Sorels. The real voice behind the version used in the movie was Winston Ford, but Hartman's version was the one used on the soundtrack and released as a single.

Kenny Vance was the musical director on Streets of Fire. He explains: "The same guy that sings lead on that and 'Countdown To Love,' a song that I wrote for the film, was a guy working at a Radio Shack (Winston Ford), and I think when you look at the film and The Sorels are singing it live in the movie, that was the version that was supposed to come out, and I recorded that version. But then when Dan Hartman heard it, I don't know what happened next, but I know that he took that guy's voice off and he put his own on, and he had a hit with it. Hollywood is a very slippery place."

In this song, the singer has a case of love-its (inflammation of the love) and the only cure is to see his girl again. If he can't be with her, at least he can dream about her.

Lyrics:
No more timing
Each tear that falls from my eyes
I'm not hiding
The remedy to cure this old heart of mine

I can dream about you
If I can't hold you tonight
I can dream about you
You know how to hold me just right
I can dream about you
If I can't hold you tonight
I can dream about you
You know how to hold me just right

Moving sidewalk
I don't see under my feet
Climbing up from
Down here below
Where the streets see me lonely for you

I can dream about you
If I can't hold you tonight
I can dream about you
You know how to hold me just right
(I can dream about you)
I'm gonna press my lips against you
And hold you tight to me
(I can dream about you)
You know you got me spellbound
What else can it be

Moving sidewalks
I don't see under my feet
Climbing up from the pain in my heart
'Cause it's you that I need

I can dream
I can dream
Yes I can dream

I don't understand it
I can't keep my mind off loving you
(Not even for a minute)
Oooh, now baby,
I'm caught up in the magic I see in you
There's one thing to do

I can dream about you
If I can't hold you tonight
I can dream about you
You know how to hold me just right

I can dream about you
Oooh, I can dream about you
Oooh, I can dream..dream about you
