Welcome to the Free WordPress Series
In this video, you’ll learn how to add or edit Copyright text in the footer of your WordPress website. This is important for branding and protecting your website content.
What is Copyright Text in WordPress Footer?
Copyright text usually appears at the bottom of your website and includes the © symbol, your website name, and the current year. Example:
© 2025 YourWebsiteName. All rights reserved.
How to Add or Edit Copyright in Footer
Step 1: Login to WordPress Dashboard
Go to your WordPress admin area.
Step 2: Go to Appearance → Customize
Open the WordPress Customizer.
Step 3: Find Footer Settings
Scroll down and click on the Footer section (option name may vary based on your theme, e.g., Footer Settings, Footer Builder, or Footer Widgets).
Step 4: Edit Footer Text or Copyright Area
Look for the Footer Text or Copyright Text field.
Type your desired text like:
© 2025 YourWebsiteName. All rights reserved.
Step 5: Use Widgets (Optional)
If your theme doesn’t have a direct footer text option, go to Appearance → Widgets → Footer Area, and add a Text Widget with your custom copyright.
Step 6: Save & Publish
Click Publish to make the changes live on your site.
Tips for Footer Copyright:
You can add dynamic shortcodes for auto-updating the year if supported by your theme. Example shortcode for some themes:
[current_year] or use PHP like php echo date('Y'); ? if editing theme files.
