Is the Replika app sentient? Well, uh, you can probably guess the answer to that, but here's a more detailed reason for why these types of chatbots aren't considered sentient.
Something I didn't cover here is how they don't actively do anything in the background, they just run API calls when you send a message, meaning there's nothing actively going on in the background that would designate consciousness.
