AutoCAD Tutorial - What's the Zero Layer For?
Every drawing contains at least one layer. The Zero (0) Layer is created when you start a new drawing. It is used by the AutoCAD program for essential functions, so you are not able to erase it or rename it. As a standard practice, you don't draw on the Zero layer. You should create other layers for your drawing objects and information.
