Welcome Back to the NerdCast Podcast! Today we will be going through diagnosing and fixing network performance issues.

Troubleshooting Slow Internet Speeds:
-Slow internet speeds can be frustrating, especially when gaming, streaming, or working from home.
-Simple steps can be taken to resolve minor issues, such as checking the modem and running a speed test.
-Internet speed is measured in megabits per second, and gigabit internet provides 1000mbps

Optimizing Wi-Fi Router Placement and Extenders:
-Router placement can affect internet speed due to obstructions; moving the router or using a Wi-Fi extender can improve signal strength.
-Wi-Fi extenders plug into wall receptacles and expand Wi-Fi signal to reach longer distances.
-Ensure Wi-Fi extender is compatible with the internet type (e.g., 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz).

Checking Cables and Prioritizing Network Traffic:
-Ensure cables are in good condition and not extended beyond a normal route to avoid latency.
-Use ethernet cables designed to handle higher speeds (e.g., Cat6 vs Cat5).
-Disconnect unused devices from the network to improve performance.

Advance Router Settings and Upgrades:
-Consider upgrading the router to handle higher speeds
-Port forwarding can prioritize certain devices to enhance internet speed for high-resources applications like gaming or work computers.
-Ensure ethernet cables are rated to handle the speed paid for through the ISP.
