The Sturer Emil was a powerful but experimental German tank destroyer that fought in World War II. It had a huge 128 mm gun that could penetrate any Soviet armor at long range. The name Sturer Emil means "stubborn Emil" in English, and was derived from a nickname given to the gun by its crew. The Sturer Emil was designed as a stop-gap measure to counter the Soviet KV-1 and T-34 tanks, which were superior to the German Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks at the time. Only two Sturer Emils were built, and both were sent to the Eastern Front in 1942. They achieved impressive results, but were also plagued by mechanical problems and lack of spare parts. One of them was destroyed or abandoned, while the other was captured at Stalingrad in 1943. The surviving Sturer Emil is now displayed at the Kubinka Tank Museum in Russia.
