Billy Thomas on Half Time Feels
In this clip from a new series of Phrasing lessons in The Paul Franklin Method, drummer Billy Thomas joins Paul to talk about a half-time train beat feel. They illustrate how musicians can indicate a groove or feel by naming a popular song that has that particular feel.
Half Time feels became popular in Country music through the songs of Waylon Jennings and Don Williams in songs like "Good Old Boys" and "Amanda".
Paul brought Billy in to get a drummer's perspective on all of the common grooves, feels and rhythms that pedal steel players frequently encounter and discuss ways to phrase your lines over the various beats.
