A catch of August in a spot very dear to me.
The day before, in one of the few fishing sunrises of my life I manage to miss a nice grouper estimated at around 8-10 kg, due to my clumsy adjustment the trigger was harder than it should have been, getting up just enough to miss the fish.
I come back the next day with ease and the sun is high, at the first dive I immediately find the fish, I can see it from afar and even if it is calm it heads towards its den. I change my speargun, I take the flashlight. I already know that the chances of finding the fish in a congenial position for catching, considering how large the stone it entered under, are slim. Depth is important and I would only shoot if I'm sure I won't run into complications. The problem does not arise, because I see the fish only for a moment. An abandoned net makes me give up the idea of changing the angle to see better. Ready to go back up, I raise my head and with surprise I find a small group of snapper towards my direction, the rock in front of me that hides my silhouette does the rest, and the fish approach without problems. I immediately frame the one that seems bigger to me, slightly further back than the others, but as soon as I clear the rock I see another fish that overlaps the chosen one from the left, in a few seconds I realize that I could make the big shot with a double-shooter, there I try. Unfortunately I can't do it for very little, but I'm more than fine with it.
A not very big fish but with immense satisfaction.
A dive in constant weight resulting from a very long learning curve. Deep fishing is a choice, which must be made with conscience and preparation, and cannot disregard the knowledge of the risks and limits of one's body, it requires a dedicated lifestyle and a lot of patience, without ever forging ahead with the systems that take you where you wouldn't be able to go.
Good vision.
