Setup Wireless Repeater to extend wifi signal using TL-WR740N With DD-WRT firmware
In this video we will create a repeater to extend WIFI coverage using TP-LINK router TL-WR740N running dd-wrt firmware
In this case you can see the original WIFI signal is ChiaKhoaVang with signal strength is about - 50 and the sigal from dd-wrt router is - 12
Both routers are TL-WR740N one with original and one flashed with dd-wrt firmware
First, we will connect to the original WIFI
You can see that the PC can access Internet with this original router
Now we will check original configuration
To repeat the signal, you should remember some importance information
Wireless SSID, Wireless Security and Network IP address are all you need for the configuration
Now let the ball rolling
First connect to dd-wrt WIFI, I already flash my 2nd router with dd-wrt firmware. If you want to learn how to flash router, refer to my other video

Now my PC is connected to dd-wrt but got no Internet access because I have not configured it
I will now connect to the TL-WR740N with dd-rwt firmware using IP address 192.168.1.1 For the first time, I have to set username/passoword
you can see that dd-wrt is showing more information than original TP-LINK firmware that is why people prefer this firmware
Now choose Status and login with username/password
Choose Wireless and survey for the WIFI signal we want to repeat
In this case I will repeat ChiaKhoaVang
It brings me to Wireless tab, default mode is AP and the is no Repeater option for this firmware however we can use client bridge (Routed)
Now I will add my Virtual Interface, the 2nd WIFI which my clients will connect to. Click add then type any name for it
In this case I will choose ChiaKhoaVang.Com as my SSID and the Wireless mode is AP
You can create more Virtual Interfaces as you like, but in this case I only create one
Now click Wireless Security and set the password for your WIFI
Security mode must be same as your root router and please enter same WPA Shared Key to connect to your original WIFI
For the second interface, choose what ever you want your clients to use
Save the changes
Choose Setup - Basic Setting and set LAN IP address to 192.168.1.x where x is not same with your root's IP
The repeater's IP must be out of root router's DHCP range (100-199 we saw at the root router)
point Gateway to your root's IP address
Now check Advanced Routing and make sure Operating Mode is Gateway
Disable SPI Fireware under Security
Configuration is done, now we will Apply Setting
After waiting for a while for the router to reboot, we can now see my new WIFI SSID ChiaKhoaVang.Com
Now connect to the new WIFI using the key we set 12345678
According to the WIFI status icon, we are connected to the Internet already
Now let check my repeater's status
You can also monitor Bandwidth which is not available in original firmware
And now I will access the Internet

The repeated one is very strong and stable while the original WIFI is abit weak
