Never Take Away is a song by American hip hop artist Lil Ray. It was leaked on Facebook as the lead single from his EP, Changing My Life Around, on January 31, 2010. It is also the first single from his mixtape "The Ragin Story", although it only appears as a bonus track. The song was produced by YouTube producer Kool T. It reportedly gained good feedback from Rays Facebook friends. It was officially released on Youtube on February 3, 2010.
Never Take Away features an up-beat, hype production, which exemplifies the meaningful direction that he hopes, will come to dominate much of Changing My Life Around. Ray stated that he drew inspiration from different Kanye West songs such as Through the Wire and Touch the Sky, elaborating that the beat style and lyrical structure are akin to that of Wests capability. He also explained that he wanted to make a song that could be noted as a theme song for people that know that everything they have is because of God. The songs hook reuses a line from Bone Thugs-n-Harmonys song Celebration from their mixtape The Fixtape Vol. 3: Special Delivery.
Lyrically, Never Take Away serves as Ray's reflections on what he has as well as his relationship with his ex-girlfriend. He begins the song by explaining that he changed a lot to become more successful as well as more serious and religious. He goes on to explain that he will never live up to most peoples expectations, as many people never will. Finally, he talks about how he thanks god for everything that hes done for him and that now hes got to find his destiny from there. All of this ties into his thoughts on his breakup with his ex, implying that he has moved on: "But I'm back on my feet, it was never meant to be/I tried to make it work, but she aint want to succeed/She can say goodbye to me, those times, she can forget it/I'm preparing for my future and she aint gotta be in it".
