I've been natural (never had a chemical relaxer) since birth. High school was my downfall because I started straightening my hair or curling my hair using hot tools daily. That was the cause of my severe heat damage. I also started to wear my hair in it's natural state in high school but I would go back and forth with straightening and wearing it curly. I started getting a lot of sew in's in high school which required me having a leave out (which I would straighten every day to match the weave's texture). This caused my hair to break off even more. Towards the end of high school I dyed my hair blond (ended up looking orange). Then I dyed it burgundy, black, light brown.... I decided to go back black and my hair eventually faded to the color it is now. I learned how to take care of my hair by doing protective styling such as braid outs, and twist outs. I also began co washing my hair daily which helped it grow even more. Castor oil helped thicken my hair. Now I can say that my hair is at it's healthiest. It took about 3 years for my hair to recover. I cut off my heat damage 3 years ago.
