Ghrishneshwar Temple is in Verul village in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples.
It is located one and a half kilometres from the Ellora Caves, 30 kilometres (19 mi) northwest of the city of Aurangabad and 300 kilometres (190 mi) east-northeast of Mumbai.
The temple structure was destroyed by the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th and 14th centuries. The temple underwent several rounds of reconstruction followed by destruction again during the Mughal-Maratha conflicts. It was first renovated in the 16th century by Maloji Bhosale, grandfather of Shivaji, and rebuilt in its current form in the 18th century under the sponsorship of Ahilyabai Holkar, queen of Indore, after the fall of the Mughal Empire
and attracts long queues of devotees daily. Anyone can enter the temple complex and its inner chambers, but to enter the temple's sanctum, local Hindu tradition demands that men must go bare-chested.
