Use poppers during training if you have the means to buy them. Cheaper and easier than real shells.
They won’t cycle a semi, so we use a pump gun without the plug to get as many shots as we can. Varying the amount of shots before you send a dog on a retrieve is key, because rarely is it “one shot, one bird” in the field.
