I thought I was going to see a "version control" system, I was chomping at the bit to see a demo, and instead I had a wonderful conversation with Edwin van Megesen about DevOps "strategy." He even shares a hot tip on a fun book set with a fictional story that shares lessons learned called The Phoenix Project. Then he dropped a rainbow on me with the plans of how they are integrating QSDA Pro right into the process flow for Soterre. We finished by talking about auditing and compliance and the need to answer the question "Tell me who changed the title of this sheet, in this app and when did the they do it?" I said I would run down the hall and ask everyone, one at a time, and I'm sure they would tell me the truth. But he said you could access al of that right inside the tool.
I felt sorry for Brandon Sullivan because by the time we were ready for the demo, the bar was so high. But the dude delivered. He even overdelivered. Like there weren't already enough boxes to check of what he needed to show, he started saying things like "I'm doing to delete this sheet right now. I sure hope I can get it back." Poof like magic we simply looked at the timeline of changes, saw the deletion, saw the version when it existed and checked a restore button.
The "decentralized development" cat is out of the bag. If you are wondering how you can allow that rapid development growth to occur, while still maintaining your sanity and provide auditing/compliance in such a dynamic arena be sure to watch the whole thing.
