Self-interest or Egotistic Exploitation?
Exploitative people may pretend to respect your boundaries even as they scheme and plan how to circumvent them.
Everyone is self-interested. Only predators are exploitive. Exploitation is a zero sum game: obtaining goals at the expense of other people, not in collaboration with them.
Self-interested people never ask you to sacrifice something. They take into account your interests and goals as well as theirs.
Mirroring is a behavioral strategy that can signify: 1. People pleasing or 2. Conflict aversion or 3. Machiavellianism (manipulativeness).
