2026 VW Jetta GLI features a Golf GTI engine, but costs a T-Cross less
After much anticipation and numerous confirmations, the second visual refresh of the current-generation Volkswagen Jetta GLI finally has a release date. The sedan will go on sale across the brand's dealership network starting November 8th, with a suggested retail price of R$269,990.
The model is the final launch of Volkswagen's sports car offensive in 2024. The initiative began with the Nivus 1.4 TSI GTS, launched in April, followed by the return of the Golf GTI 2.0 TSI, now in its eighth generation and imported, and concludes with the sports sedan.
The update brought the Jetta the brand's new visual identity, already present on models like the Tera and Tiguan. In the restyled version already sold in the Mexican market, the three-volume model gained narrower LED headlights aligned with the grille, as well as an illuminated bar connecting the components—a solution already seen on models like the Nivus, Taos, and Golf MK8.5. On the bumper, the lower air intake has been made more prominent and now features a red strip running the entire width of the car. The honeycomb elements have been retained but have been redesigned.
At the rear, the taillights have been redesigned and feature a new LED light signature. They are thicker on the inside and are now connected by a horizontal bar positioned above the trunk lid. The 18-inch wheels have also been redesigned and are now completely blacked out.
Inside, the passenger air conditioning vent has been redesigned and features continuous horizontal elements. In the center of the dashboard, the multimedia center is now higher up, similar to the look adopted in models like the restyled T-Cross and Tera.
The engine configuration remains with the 2.0-liter turbo, with 231 hp and 35.7 kgfm, connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch automated transmission. Volkswagen hasn't yet released the equipment list, but it shouldn't include much beyond the current features, with highlights including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind spot warning, a sunroof, and 18-inch wheels, to name a few.
