While research into the particle theory of atomic dark matter is quite promising, the true nature of the dark sector may be much more interesting. Some physicists suggest that the reason we've been unable to solve the mystery of dark matter for so long is because the wrong people are working on it.
"Here be dragons" (Latin: hic sunt dracones) means "dangerous or unknown territories." In medieval times, images of dragons, sea monsters, and other mythological creatures were sometimes placed on uncharted areas of maps where potential danger was believed to exist.
