Ice Moves Ashore
While filming training videos along the shore of the Grundlsee in Austria, we suddenly heard an odd sound. I started looking around trying to figure out where the sound was coming from, and then saw that the ice that had been sitting about 10 meters away from the shore of the lake had started moving toward shore. The ice was very thin, and so it "crumpled" into slush. I rushed to capture a video, but it had already started and was nearly done by the time I got setup, so you can't see too much in this video. After a minute or so it stopped moving, and was still. Then about ten minutes later it started moving away from the shore again.
If anyone knows what would have caused this I would love to know. I don't believe it was wind, as it was a rather calm day. I suspect perhaps temperature differences in the lake might have caused some movement, but I'm not sure. It was odd, and very fascinating!
