In this video we look at 3 ways to fill a sketchbook. A sketchbook is such a personal item and it's a great way to explore ideas you might be afraid of trying on a larger scale.

For the first sketchbook idea, I paint butterflies, taking inspiration from botanical and scientific illustrations. I really enjoyed the muted tones that I created for this painting. I've never created a flat lay of insects before, but I really love the style, so I had a lot of fun trying this idea out in my sketchbook.

Next up I practiced my portrait drawing skills using a fineliner pen. I decided to pay tribute to Sir Tom Moore and create a bright bold pen portrait of him. I really enjoyed creating this addition to my sketchbook.

The third and final sketchbook idea is a watercolour warm up, practicing layering or glazing skills. I have created a gradient of purples, to reds to yellow across this page. The colours layer beautifully. This is a brilliant warm up for when you need a little inspiration in your sketchbook and it can fill a page up with exciting colours.
