How to Prove Your Disability Began 5 or 10 Years Ago
Is it possible to prove that your #medicaldisability began 5, 10, or even 15 years ago? You may need to prove a #remoteonsetdate because your insurance for #SSDIbenefits ran out several years ago. As I discuss in this video, in order to qualify for #SSDI you must prove that your disability began before your “date last insured” - the date your SSDI earnings credits run out.
Also, in some cases, proving a long ago onset may mean tens of thousands of dollars paid to you as #retroactive benefits.
In my experience, the key to proving a remote onset date has to do with evidence - can you track down medical evidence from doctors you treated with many years ago to prove that your medical condition was at a disabling level or severity.
Objective evidence like #MRI reports, CT scan reports, cardiopulmonary function results and similar test results can make a big difference.
You also must understand clearly what you need to prove and how to testify effectively about a remote onset date. This means that you and your lawyer need to practice how you will answer questions at your #disabilityhearing.
