The Phone Battery Scam Nobody Knows About
Who could have guessed this scam is even a thing? 😩
There's something everyone should be aware of if you ever go to get your phone battery replaced in the future. There's a type of device called a "tag-on flex cable" which ostensibly has legitimate purposes, but repair shops may not fully inform you about them. They basically allow the use of non-genuine battery cells with your phone, while not triggering Apple's "non-genuine" warning on iPhones. In the past, independent repair shops may have had to use these even when using purely genuine batteries, but these days there's not really a reason they should be using them. And they can be used by less-then-honest repairers to install inferior batteries.
