Functions of MAC layer in CA:
Maintains the timer “ScellDeactivationTimer”
MAC entity maintains a timer ScellDeactivationTimer per configured Scell and deactivates the associated Scell upon its expiry.
-Used to monitor data inactivity of the UE data usage.
Aggregates data from multiple cells-All the data coming from multiple cells are aggregated by MAC layer and sent to upper layers.
Functions of PHY layer in CA:
Two new PUCCH formats were defined
Format 1b (HARQ ACK/NACK up to 2CC)
Format 3 (HARQ ACK/NACK up to 5CC)
There is one PHY layer per Scell, PHY layer processing chain is repeated for every UL serving cell
Functions of RLC layer in CA:
Maintains larger RLC buffer to handle data from multiple cells
