Internal Investigation Shakes the Talca East Police Station

A new and serious case has rocked the Carabineros (Chilean National Police) in the Maule Region. Six police officers were arrested in Talca as part of an investigation into alleged crimes of robbery with intimidation, burglary, criminal association, and falsification of public documents.
The accused belong to the Third Police Station of Talca and the Talca East Police Station, the latter of which has been the scene of various operations in recent hours led by specialized personnel from the Carabineros' Internal Affairs division.
The information was initially released by Radio FM+ and subsequently updated with information gathered by Talca Noticias, in an ongoing investigation that could yield further developments in the coming hours.
A lieutenant and five officers of varying ranks among those arrested
Among the six charged is a Carabineros lieutenant who previously served at the Third Police Station in Talca. According to information available so far, the officer had been transferred to the Fourth Police Station while the investigation was underway.
Along with him, a senior non-commissioned officer, a sergeant, and three corporals were arrested.
All were placed at the disposal of the court and will be formally charged this Friday, at which time the Public Prosecutor's Office will present the evidence gathered to date and request any precautionary measures it deems appropriate.
The discovery that sparked the investigation
According to Talca Noticias, the information began to emerge following investigations carried out by Internal Affairs, which reportedly detected the presence of drugs and weapons inside the Eastern Police Station in Talca.
This discovery led to a series of investigative procedures that subsequently allowed for the expansion of the inquiries and the establishment of the possible involvement of police officers in various serious crimes.
For now, authorities have not released further details regarding the quantities of drugs, the type of weapons found, or the specific connection these items may have with the crimes under investigation.
Institutional Dismissals and Administrative Measures
As a result of the information gathered during the investigation, the five lower-ranking officers were dismissed from the institution.
In the case of the accused officer, he had already been removed from his original unit and assigned to another department while the internal investigations proceeded.
This situation represents one of the most serious cases that the Carabineros (Chilean National Police) have faced in the regional capital of Maule in recent years, both due to the number of officers involved and the nature of the crimes being investigated.
