Bleach might be one of my biggest disappointments as a manga, but it took me a long time to figure out exactly why its escalating power battles felt so much worse to me than they did in a story like Dragon Ball or One Piece.
Because Bleach is what happens when the ever-escalating need for more impressive power battles overtakes and obliterates the personal stakes of a story.
