Artists on Social Media: How to Succeed in Art
Are you an art school graduate trying to succeed on Instagram? Are you a social media influencer trying to enter the art world? No matter which side you are on and where you want to go, you will face many hurdles and prejudices. It seems there is a great divide between the 'institutional artists' and 'social media artists'.
I have experienced this prejudice myself as a trained filmmaker. I was once told by a senior colleague that I should stop using Youtube because 'real filmmakers don't go on Youtube'. Although this is not true, it shows that many people in the creative industry consider artists on social media too popular (hence, not elitist enough to be in an art history book).
