Hi All,
This video describes the automatic or auto date time feature in Power BI.
How to disable the automatic date time feature in Power BI.
Why it is a best practice to create custom date time tables rather than using the automatic date tables in Power BI.
Following points are discussed in this video:
A feature in Power BI selected by default.
Can be configured by going to File - Options and Settings - Options - Time Intelligence - Select/Deselect "Auto Date/Time for new files".
Creates a hidden date table for each date or datetime column in the model.
Modifying these hidden tables is not possible.
The feature creates a hierarchy for dates: Year - Quarter - Month - Day.
Comes with major drawbacks :
--- One hidden table created for each date column. For n date columns, n hidden tables will be created, with no relationship among them, thus forming a huge model and this unnecessarily leads to increase in model size.
--- One can't create a simple matrix where one can show the ordered sales amount and delivered sales amount by a single date.
--- Since the tables are hidden, a developer can't modify them. If one wants to add something in those date tables, he/she simply can't!
