English Folk Song - The Bold Fisherman
The Bold Fisherman (Roud Folk Song Index #291) is an English folk song in which a woman meets a man rowing down a river. Initially thinking him a fisherman, she discovers that he is in truth a lord, and the couple get married. There is a strong Christian undercurrent to this seemingly simple love song. The humble man - a 'fisher of men' - is in reality the Lord Jesus Christ, who forgives the woman for her mistakes and leads her to His father's house (Heaven). The three gold chains represent the Holy Trinity.
