A lesson from Honored Coach of the USSR L. Ramm on the correct combination of positional and combination play in Russian checkers.
Lev Moiseevich Ramm (July 15, 1906 – December 15, 1986) – Soviet athlete (Russian and draughts-100). Honored Coach of the USSR (1966). All-Union category referee (1936). Master of Sports (1927). Draughts theorist and teacher. Together with V. A. Sokov, he made significant contributions to the analysis of the Novoleningrad Defense and Leningrad Defense openings (named after the places of residence of the checkers theorists). One of the openings in Russian checkers, to the development of which he and his student Eduard Tsoukernik made significant contributions, is called the Ramm-Tsoukernik Game. Among his students are several grandmasters, dozens of masters and hundreds of checkers players of the highest ranks: Viktor Litvinovich, Vladimir Golosuev, Eduard Tsoukernik, Solomon Gersht, Andrey Napreenkov, Alexander Rats, Evgeniy Lysenko, Yuri Alperovich, Igor Alekseev, Vsevolod Moshkin, Isaac Signaevsky, Vladimir Merkin, Boris Rosenfeld, Dmitry Lond, Sergey Egorov, Iraida Spasskaya, Boris Kuznetsov, Mikhail Pronin, Elena Gerchikova, Gennady Savelyev, Boris Alexandrov, Nikolai Kononov, Yakov Kaplunov, Yuri Lelikov, Gennady Belkin, Galina Kuznetsova (Romanova), Vladimir Roshkevich, Nadezhda Dyachenko and others. Mikhail Korenevsky began studying with Ramm in the experimental group of hundred-celled people.
