Chegem. Special operation against extremists in the CBR
At night on September 18 during carrying out quickly-search actions in the city of Chegem of Kabardino-Balkar Republic security agencies received information on finding in one of the private houses located in the 1st Industrial travel, two armed bandits who are members of religious extremist group.
In order to prevent them from committing terrorist acts and to ensure the safety of citizens, the head of the Republican Department of the FSB of Russia decided to conduct a counter-terrorist operation and introduce an appropriate legal regime in part of the city of Chegem from 5 a.m. on September 18, 2019.
The area surrounding the building was cordoned off. Holed up in the house, the bandits were asked to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities. In response, they opened fire on law enforcement officers and were neutralized during the combat contact.
An improvised explosive device, submachine guns and ammunition were found ready for use at the scene of the shooting.
The identity of the militants previously established. According to reports, they intended to commit terrorist crimes on the territory of the Republic.
There were no casualties among law enforcement officials or civilian casualties.
