Game description from GRYOnline.pl:

Domina is a PC-based economic strategy game that lets you run a "ludus" – a gladiator school operating during the heyday of the Roman Empire. The game was developed by Canadian studio DolphinBarn.

During the game, players must purchase gladiators, prepare training plans for them, and then field them in arena battles. The game offers a wide variety of weapons, armor, and fighting styles, allowing players to create warriors specialized in specific fields – although there's nothing stopping you from also having more versatile characters among your players.

As befits an economic strategy game, ultimately everything revolves around money. Players are forced to find the right balance between income and investment. There are plenty of opportunities to quickly earn large sums, but these opportunities often carry significant risk.

The PC game Domina offers numerous arena types and diverse battle scenarios. Some focus on fair gladiator duels, while others are designed to make survival as difficult as possible for our warriors.

The political aspect also plays a key role. Rome is full of influential figures, and to survive in business, it's essential to gain their favor, which grants access to better rewards, opens up new opportunities for profit, and protects against being forced to fight in arenas where victory is practically impossible.

What kind of game is this?

Domina is:

a simulator of a gladiator school (ludus) in ancient Rome,

a combination of management, training, strategy, and arena combat,

with retro-style pixel graphics and intense, brutal action,

a surprisingly deep system of character development, equipment, and relationships with Roman elites.

Key Features:

Ironman-like character development – your gladiators can perish forever, and a wrong decision can ruin the entire campaign.

Difficult moral choices – will you forgive a slave or have him flogged? Will you court senators or intimidate them?

Gladiator fights – you can let the AI fight or take control of the warrior yourself.

Training and management – you hire trainers, heal the wounded, buy equipment, and develop technologies.

Aesthetics – despite its simple graphics, the game has a unique atmosphere thanks to dynamic music and dramatic effects.

Additional trivia:
The game had its share of controversy when the developer posted controversial comments in updates, leading to its removal from Steam in 2022.

Despite this, you can still find versions of the game in circulation and it still has a dedicated community.

If you enjoy games like Darkest Dungeon, Battle Brothers (which you also love), or RimWorld, Domina offers similar brutality and challenging management, only in a Roman setting.
