Interesting fact:
In 1942, over 1,000 cubic meters of firewood were delivered to Moscow daily, and special battalions and volunteer teams were created to procure the fuel—a true front in the country's rear, where every person was part of a great cause.
In the harsh year of 1942, when Moscow was enduring the Great Patriotic War, firewood procurement became a vital task for the capital. Thousands of workers and Muscovites were mobilized to provide residents and troops with warmth during the coldest months.
Among them were women and teenagers, who, under artillery fire, chopped down trees and delivered firewood to city warehouses, making an invaluable contribution to the overall Victory. This difficult but important work allowed the city to survive in the most difficult times.
